ASUS MeMO Pad Launched at $149, Challenges “Brother” Nexus 7
In a move that many would consider weird, Asus has launched the MeMO Pad, a tablet that obviously gets launched to throw a challenge at the bigger brother, Nexus 7. I also find it weird that Asus didn’t announce this at CES 2013,
when obviously, they would have gotten a much bigger promotion. But
still, it remains a curious device and it will definitely manage to
raise some eyebrows.
It’s even weirder that Asus launches a cheaper tablet than another one that’s made also by them. So, they’re challenging their own, product, one could say. And I think that if Asus would’ve included this slate amongst their CES products, it would’ve been much, much better, because it comes with a very appealing offer – $149 price.
Obviously, for $150, you won’t get the same specs as Nexus 7, but it’s still great that you can pay such a small amount and get a device from such a respected name as Asus. I mean, I’d be afraid to pay $150 for a no-name brand and get nothing in return. Probably Asus sensed that they could come up with a device to cover the entry-level market – hence, the launch of this baby.
The MeMO Pad comes with Android 4.1 Jelly Bean and will be available in three colors: sugar White, titanium Gray and cherry pink (for ladies, I assume). Here are the specs of the latest tablet from Asus:

problem with tablets is their price, and until recently, a good tablet
with some decent specs was about $200 (and of course, much higher). For
those who didn’t afford to buy such a device, the choice was limited to
low end models with low resolution screens, lazy processors and a very
low amount of RAM. The MeMO Pad will have to face a few competitors, even in this entry-level area:

Competition is around the corner
Most of us wanted to own a tablet at one point because these devices have some big advantages over smartphones, in the sense that they are much better suited for video playback, web surfing or gaming.
