Nokia Announces Lumia 520 for €139 & Lumia 720 for €249 [MWC 2013]

Image
M ore and more phone makers are turning their focus by releasing cheaper smartphones that come with appealing features. At the Mobile World Congress 2013 Nokia didn’t announce a Windows 8 tablet (at least, not yet), but instead, the Finnish company released 4 new phones: the Lumia 720, Lumia 520, Nokia 301 and Nokia 105 . All of them come at attractive prices, so getting enough sales shouldn’t be a problem for them. What Nokia is doing right is somewhat similar to Sony’s Xperia brand. Nokia is hoping to get back in the leading cellphone maker race by targeting what it always managed to be good at – low priced phones. Nokia hopes to outrun Samsung but truth be told – this will be really tough, provided that Android’s far more popular than Windows Phone is. But the price is appealing for the Lumia line and the quality is satisfying, so the single question is – will consumers be lured in? Nokia Lumia 520: looks, specs and availability

Nokia Introduces Cheap, but Good Phones: 105 for €15 and 301 for €65 [MWC 2013]

N okia was very optimistic this morning in Firenza Hall at Barcelona, and they have strong motives to act so. Right before Marko Ahtisari, the head of Nokia design revealed the Lumia 520 and 720 as a perfect wonder for mid-range markets, he talked about two other models, ones targeted for people with lower expectations and fewer needs. Known as the Nokia 105 and 301, these babies were described as being the first choice for those that do not own a phone yet or, they truly need a back-up. While focusing on general experience, Nokia was keen to bringing a device that can be customized for the taste of each and every individual, and the 105 and 301 are a perfect example of this tactic. Simple to use, affordable and with a way of adding a personal touch. Nokia 105 and 301 General View Nokia 301 Nokia introduces elements of high end to price affordable devices that are both inspirational and easy to use for those not so tech-savvy. The first one to achieve such a

Hands on with the Nokia Lumia 720 [MWC 2013]

Image
N okia launched the Lumia 720 earlier today at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, another mid-range Windows Phone 8 device which sits between the flagship Lumia 920 and low end Lumia 520 (also announced today). The 4.3-inch IPS clearblack display is pretty impressive to look at, and like other Lumia phones, Lumia 720 comes in variety of vibrant colors as well. Unlike Lumia 920, the Lumia 720 is pretty light and good to hold in your hands. It’s powered by 1 GHz Qualcomm’s Snapdragon S4 processor and 512MB of RAM, with 8GB of internal memory and a microSD slot expandable upto 32GB. The 6.7 megapixel camera on the rear comes with LED flash and can record HD (720p) videos at 30fps. Nokia is promising a standby time of 520h and talk time of 13.5h with its 2000mAh battery. All in all, Nokia Lumia 720 is a mid-range smartphone with great build but less-than-impressive specs and is priced at 249 Euros. It’ll be available in Hong Kong, Vietnam &am

Hands on with Nokia Lumia 520: Nokia’s Cheapest Windows Phone

Image
N okia has just unveiled their cheapest Windows Phone 8 phone yet, the Lumia 520 . This budget smartphone retails for €139 and is pretty similar to the older Lumia 620, announced last year. We spent some time with this budget WP8 device, which is scheduled to be launched in March 2013. Like other low-end devices, Lumia 520 sports a 4-inch WVGA display, a partly 8GB of internal memory, a passable 5-megapixel rear camera and a 1 GHz Dual Core Snapdragon processor. To cut down the price, Nokia hasn’t bothered to put a front-facing shooter on the unit and neither astonishing features, such as premium display or a premium processing unit. Although some of these elements may seem moderate, we have to note that the Lumia 520 comes with a WGA display capable of 800 x 480 pixel resolution and a fair pixel density, paired with super-sensitive qualities which can sense even gloves. Also, it has the ability to accommodate an external memory for up to 64GB and comes with Bluetoo

ASUS Announces 7-inch Fonepad: 1 GB RAM, 1.2 Ghz Intel Atom, Starts at $249 [MWC 2013]

T oday, ASUS has officially unveiled their brand new budget tablet at MWC 2013. The device has many similarities with the Nexus 7, the Google tablet also developed by ASUS a while back. The 7-inch tablet is competitively priced and handles both data and voice calls over 3G. Also, in terms of hardware, the tablet also has a lot to offer, by providing users with a lot of power. It’s not as cheap as the previously announced Asus MeMo Pad, though. So, it’s basically a cheap tablet that also supports 3G, which means you’re able to take phone calls with it. It comes with Android 4.1, which isn’t the latest version, but the upgrade should be possible. The HD IPS display allows for wide viewing angles and good clarity. Jonney Shih, ASUS Chairman: It is ideal to have a larger screen with entertainment, social media and other online activities now playing an increasingly important part in our mobile lifestyles. The incorporation of 3G mobile data with full telephony supp

BlackBerry Z10 Review [Video]

Image
B B10 has been the most exciting announcements this year so far. The first smartphone from the BB10 stable is BlackBerry Z10 , the all-touch-no-buttons phone looks very similar to the Apple iPhone 5, but the similarity ends with the looks. BlackBerry is hoping that BB10 and Z10 are their window towards reinventing themselves. But is this good enough to help them get their footing back? We shall find that out today. Let’s get this straight. Z10 is nothing like the good old (and relatively dumb) BlackBerry phones you have seen over the years. While they are still intended for the office boys (pun intended), BlackBerry has added a dash of fun to their latest effort. It’s completely reimagined and redesigned from the scratch. Find below our detailed video review of BlackBerry Z10. Video Review If you prefer a traditional review, it’s coming up really soon.

First Look at Samsung Galaxy Note 8.0 [MWC 2013]

Image
W e’re here at the Mobile World Congress and we’ve got our first hands-on with one of the latest gadgets from Samsung – Galaxy Note 8.0. This 8-incher is meant to counterattack the iPad Mini, the older Nexus 7 and gets launched right around the same time when HP announces the Slate 7, which means that the competition for the middle-sized tablet is even more acerbe. Samsung has all the sizes that you want: the 10 inch Galaxy Note, the 5.5 “smaller” Galaxy Note, taller new Galaxy Note II. Right now, a new size is here, trying to catch a new niche of users. Those interested in this tablet should know that it will hit retail stories in the second quarter of 2013 for an yet undisclosed price. But judging by other prices of fimilar Samsung products – Galaxy Note 10.1 for $499 and Galaxy Tab 2 7.0 for  $199; it should be around $300-400$. Check the photo gallery below and the video to see how the device looks in action. Galaxy Note 8.0: specs and looks

Hands-on With the HP Slate 7: Company’s First Android Device [MWC 2013]

Image
W e don’t know if major OEMs have a secret pact between them or something, but one thing’s for sure – this year, at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, they are completely ignoring the 10 inch tablets. Samsung has announced the Galaxy Note 8.0 and now it’s HP’s turn to win customers with the Slate 7 . We go hands-on with this affordable, yet nicely crafted piece of gadgetry. Before jumping to pictures and videos, which is what most people are interested in, let’s see what Slate 7 comes with. Two things are very important – it’s affordable and it comes soon on the market. The starting price will be $169 and the releasing month is April. HP Slate 7 is actually a big deal from one point of view – it’s Hewlett-Packard’s first Android product , so this means HP is back in the mobile race, ready to join Google’s army of Android adopters. HP has also announced that they will be building much more tablets and smartphones, so this is just the beginning. HP Slate 7: Looks and Specs
