HTC One Announced: 4.7-inch 1080p Display, 1.7GHz Quad-core & UltraPixel Camera

HTC has officially unveiled the already leaked flagship android phone for 2013, the HTC One. The heavily leaked iPhone 5 look-alike carries some exciting specs on paper: 4.7-inch 1080p Full HD display, 1.7GHz quad-core Snapdragon 600 processor, 2GB RAM and 2300mAh battery.
HTC has opted for premium look and feel, by ditching polycarbonate & plastic to a machined aluminum unibody. The display is a 1080p Super LCD 3 screen protected by Gorilla Glass 2 and boasts a stunning pixel density of 468 dpi. At 143 grams, it’s not the lightest phone around, but definitely lighter than many others in the segment.

And yes, there is no microSD slot, which has become a norm with phones with unibody chassis these days. But credit must be given to HTC for including an IR controller and supporting WiFi 802.11ac standard in HTC One.
Starting today, get ready to hear about the new terminology in smartphones – Ultrapixel camera. HTC has called foul on the megapixel myth and gone ahead by fitting a 4-megapixel BSI sensor and f/2.0 lens on HTC One, such that each pixel is meant to gather 300 percent more light than the current crop of smartphone sensors.
Also, the camera on HTC One will come with Optical Image Stabilization, made popular by Nokia Lumia 920. HTC One can record 1080p videos as 60fps and also comes with a new feature dubbed Zoe, which allows users to capture and share short videos, much like Vine, via HTC’s dedicated site.
HTC has always managed to come up with decent hardware, but hasn’t stuck gold in recent times. HTC One X was a good phone, but let down by battery issues. HTC Droid DNA (aka Butterfly) was the first one with 1080p display, but was let down by poor battery & bad pricing. We need to wait and see how the company prices HTC One, which can be instrumental in product’s success. The phone will start shipping in late March, and will be made available in 80 countries, with 185 countries across the globe.
