Sony Announces PlayStation 4 [Updated]

It is here, actually sooner than we thought. Sony has just announced PlayStation 4 at its event from New York. I realized that PlayStation 4 was here while watching the soccer game between Milan and Barcelona – there were banners suggesting the next generation was about to be launched just like it happened with the launch of HTC One.
PlayStation 4 comes with, obviously, a new controller, which isn’t very different from the previous generation, however, it does sport a new design. The DualShock 4 controller has a touchpad and a share button and comes with rubberized grisps. It will be really curious to see this in action and we’ll be here to report on the first reviews.

The controller also comes with a headphone jack, so it’s something more than a controller, actually. The share button will actually allow you to share 10 seconds from in-game highlights to your folks. I’m already imagining how I’m going to share my football goals with my pals…

The are many awesome and exciting things about PlayStation 4 and it shows that the company has very well planned this launch and that PlayStation 4 is a product that has been crafted very well. One of the awesome things about PlayStation 4 is that games can be played even before they are finished downloading! How’s that possible? Yes, the inclusion of cloud gaming! Sony has always been working closely with Gaikai which will allow consumers to try games before they want to buy them.
Sony has not abandoned the PlayStation Vita and it will actually be used as a companion for PlayStation 4. And what’s even more awesome is that all PlayStation 4 games will be available for PS Vita and it will become ready for remote play. So, you’ll be able to resume your gaming experience. Smart move – considering how big an issue this was before! PlayStation 4 will allow users to resume/suspend gaming only by pressing the power button.

The designers and engineers behind PlayStation have obviously had social in mind when they’ve developed these awesome new features. For example, the ability to watch others playing is a delight for many. The PlayStation Network will once more become filled with gamers, so let’s hope they’ll be able to maintain security for users to feel safe. What’s really enticing is that you can play a game before buying it. Dave Perry, CEO at Gaikai:
With Gaikai and the PS Store, you’ll be able to instantly experience anything you want. Try it for free, share if you like it, and pay only if you like it.
However, disadantages also come with PlayStation 4 and one of them is the fact that PlayStation 4 won’t be able to play PlayStation 3 games natively. So, all that huge collection of PS3 games … ? Forget about it or, leave it be, because Sony said they’ll looking into advanced technologies that will allow the porting of older games into the new platform. There’s still hope and let’s see if Sony will keep its word.

Another important thing with the launch of PlayStation 4 is that the user interface has been completely changed. A big highlight has been put on social and video. Sony hopes that PlayStation 4 users will transform their games experience into socializing experiences. Companion social applications will help a lot in that direction, too. Now it’s starting to make sense why Sony paid 380 million dollars for Gaikai.
