Rumored Sony Yoga Boasts Outlandish Specs: 16MP Camera, 3GB RAM, 128 GB Storage
When you think about Sony smartphones, Xperia is what comes into your mind. In the past, we’ve talked about how much consumers need Sony Ericsson in the smartphone battle.
Now that Sony is left alone, could they pose a more serious threat to
other smartphone makers by releasing a truly impressive handset? Rumor
has it that this might become true and it could come under the name of Yuga.
Of course, we’re in the stage where the single evidence that we can lay our hands of are rumors and speculations. But, sometimes, even that might be enough to make an opinion. Let’s have a look at Apple, who was said to double down on secrecy. The result? An iPhone 5 that is obviously the “most leaked” iPhone so far. The same story happened with iPad Mini. So, if this happened with Apple, then we should analyse rumors better, but still, take them with a grain of salt.
It all started when DigiTimes, already a well-known authorithy in contributing to early rumors about upcoming products, published a small report. They didn’t say much, but it was enough to start the fire:
If this becomes reality, I’m really curious to see if it will have an affordable price, one that would allow it to compete against HTC’s Droid DNA or Samsung’s Galaxy Note 2. What exactly is Exynos 5 Quad CPU? Well, apparently that’s the “next generation” of processors and will be also present in Galaxy Note 3 (if that ever becomes reality). Also, you paid attention to the screen, right? It’s said to be full HD OLED. Yes, a 5 inch OLED screen will steal your eyes away.
A Russian website reportedly has some information about the construction materials of the device. Apparently, it could be made using the Dragontrail glass technology which so far, seems to have lost the game against Corning Gorilla. Probably this is the most “sane” of all these details, since the smartphones in the Xperia line already used it. You know what was missing from these feature to really make it a Oh-my-God-this-is-not-true device? Yes, that’s right – flexible screens.
Some posts on the same forum suggest that this wonder device could be launched at the Consumers Electronic Show in Las Vegas. If you strongly believe this could become reality, then I suggest start piling up some money.

Sony to release phablet with impressive specs
I don’t know about you but I personally don’t like the Xperia branding idea and I really hope Sony will lose it in the future. It’s so SonyEricsson-ish that they really need to think of something else. Not that it would matter that much – provided that they start on releasing impressive devices. And Sony might try their look with a compromise between smartphone and tablets – the phablet, as we’re used to call it.It all started when DigiTimes, already a well-known authorithy in contributing to early rumors about upcoming products, published a small report. They didn’t say much, but it was enough to start the fire:
Samsung Electronics, Sony Mobile Communications, LG Electronics, Huawei Device and ZTE are expected to follow HTC and Sharp to roll out smartphones with 5-inch Full HD displays in the first half of 2013, according to industry sources.Soon after that, some interesting specs were spotted on a Chinese forum and immediately linked to the rumored Yuga phablet:
- Samsung Exynos 5 Quad CPU
- 3GB of RAM
- 5-inch OLED display Full HD
- 128GB storage
- 16-megapixel camera
- 3000mAh battery
- Water and Dust resistant
- IR blaster
Too good to be true?
What else can you say about these specs than – wow! But, when you think about it – does one really need that much? Some of these features are really nice, like the battery, water and dust resistant options and even the IR blaster (some sort of a remote control for home entertainment) but the rest seem just like too much for me, especially if this is going to be an Android device. I am not quite sure how can a 5 inch device “cope” with such a load, but maybe I am wrong and just maybe Sony wants to take us even further into the future. And who knows, maybe into a new era, just like the name suggests. If this becomes reality, I’m really curious to see if it will have an affordable price, one that would allow it to compete against HTC’s Droid DNA or Samsung’s Galaxy Note 2.
